UNDERMINING ARMY UNITY AND COHESION !

After a recent spurt in the events putting army in negative light, a view is gaining ground amongst veterans and serving officers that it could be a deliberate act to create division in its rank and file and thus affect its deep cohesion to weaken its fighting potential. The frequency of rise in the negative publicity for the army in the recent times , does raise this doubt. I am sanguine to the fact that our past was NO exception and such events had taken place. But they were not so openly discussed and debated. Time to think by army leadership that TRANSPARENCY was the key attribute of Military leadership of 21 st Century.
What is more emphatically stated within army circles is that it could very well be a TRANS-BORDER ACT. It is not to suggest that rogue incidents are not taking place in the army but what is worse is the fact when unauthenticated negative versions appear in the social media. I will high light some incidents :---
(a) BOAT WITH THREE STARS . It is no doubts a real episode. But what is strange is a letter purported to be written by another unnamed Lt Gen to Comdt, OTA, Gaya. It is a personal communication between two Generals. How come it landed in the hands of Junior Officer to go viral in the social media? I am sure Comdt OTA can clarify for the good of the organisation. His silence would confirm that it is real. But then who leaked it?
(b) NASHIK INCIDENT . A version on the incident is showing that army officers were beaten, handcuffed and kept in police custody and senior army officers went and apologised before the army officers were released. Is this really a true version or something else had happened. Comdt school of Arty has to clarify these aspects and HQ Southern Comd has to ensure that erring policemen are taken to task, if there was any truth in the version now circulating amongst veterans.
(c) URI INCIDENT . A case was made out that killing of soldiers by terrorists took place because of the orders, verbal or wriittenn emanating from Comd / Corps HQ not to open fire on civilians without verifying their antedecents. This was as an aftermath of Chattegam incident where two alleged innocent youths were killed because of mistaken identity.
There are more such incidents going viral in the social media to put army in the bad light. While there was some truth in it, what disturbs the mind is distorted versions appearing to influence the cohesion of the army. There is a view point that GENERALS HAVE BEEN DELIBERATELY TARGETTED TO CREATE DISTRUST AMONGST LEADERS AND THE LED. I have somehow begun to accept this, though not condoning wayward behaviour of some Generals. But, to me, there seems to be some method in this madness.
To me, it seems, if it is NOT TRANS- BORDER act then, it could very well be the job of Anti- Army organizations like the IAS LOBBY to put army in a poor light. There is no doubts that IAS lobby has been constantly trying to disgrace and defame army since long. OROP issue might have led them to ensure that government has re- think on this. The bureaucracy has various means to do so.
Well! These are my views and I have some uncanny hunch that some politically minded veterans amongst us could also have a hand in this to project their outfits to garner support of 97% category veterans (remember 3 percent Achievers and 97% Shit remark attributed to the Lt Gen Authoring letter on BOAT CASE) . It is to ensure these so called "lowly veterans" swarm to these fledgling political outfits.
Finally, I would only say, that such a mischief, whether originating trans-border or it is a "Home -made cocktail", can only take place once we provide the grounds for it by way of our wayward conduct, whether a General immersing his father's ashes or a Lieutenant on a YO course. 50% percent fault lay with army. Let us not forget that trigger on such episodes lay with the army. It provides ammunition and the " professional shooters" , then, take on. Isn't it time for army to look around itself? Have your say!
